eschewing the real shark man of the Delta， legendary Vietnam War veteran and legit Navy SEAL bad-boy， SEAL TEAM 6 creator turned author， Demo Dick Marcinko。 Though not monopolizing the Intro， Tom Reece seems destined to become the missing puzzle piece to link one of the victims of violent subterfuge to the next generation of action。 Seemingly in line to become the Matriarch of Vengeance and summon or release the Son of Tom from the custody of Uncle Sam to unleash Hurricane Reece on those who perpetrated this cowardly attack。 It appears that revenge is a dish best served cold。The end of IN THE BLOOD had Reece stuck in a particular circumstance， reducing the options of what could unfold in ONLY THE DEAD。 Since the James Reece thrillers are Mil-Procedural haute couture and not in John Grisham's court， a lengthy prosecution and trial is certainly not in the cards， since it wouldn't fit with the pre-set theme of 'Truth and Consequences'， as the US legal system is certainly not all about truth。 That leaves a deal with the US government akin to the across-the-cyclone-fence chat between Colonel Trautman and his protégé in the pre-credit sequence of RAMBO: FIRST BLOOD PART II or， sitting US Senator who had a potent rival taken out in the early 80s with a lethal dose of lead to cover up a monumental skim job of Uncle Sam's funds the likes of which hasn't been seen since Hunsacker's demise in LETHAL WEAPON， tying it to a global scheme and power grab with the resurrected （again） #1 1980s bad guys--The Russians。 As mentioned in the remarkable ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT by Erich Remarque， "this story is。。。least of all an adventure， for death is not an adventure to those who stand face to face with it。" Despite the para academic way to name the child， it might have been better to try for a make-belief James Bond title like， say， YOU ONLY DIE ONCE。 Possibly offering a lighter version of DeMille's UP COUNTRY and the numerous episodes of MAGNUM P。I。 featuring politics， death is for keeps， necessitating having to play the long game--as does ONLY THE DEAD with the intro， setting up what promises to be a roiling， deep diving novel of politics， intrigue，
